The silver lining

One turned his face towards the window and did not speak a word until the bus reached the stop where we regularly get down and another friend dropped the spoon on the chinaware with a loud cluttering noise, which caught the attention of all in the restaurant for a moment.  Though these two incidents happened at two different places on two different days the reason behind it is my coming out to my friends...

I believe coming out to oneself is more important and it took me a year to do so after which i wanted to tell my friends. I am not writing here to share tips that will the process easy but why it is better to reveal one's orientation to the kith and kin.

Most of us keep up this dangerous secret to ourselves blaming that the society would not accept but we fail to work on how to make the people around us understand. It is clearly because there are not many who care to be identified as gay. For example, a decade ago love marriages were looked down with contempt but now they are accepted and welcomed by most Indian families. It is because people's understanding about it has improved seeing the numerous number of happily wedded such couples in their day to day lives. They have come out of the cliche that love  marriages are easily prone to break-up. And it is one such cliche the world has on us too.

How are we going to shatter that false image public have on us. We need not let every guy know about our orientation but to our friends circle in schools and colleges, colleagues in work place and even to family at some point of time.Make them understand that it is not gonna change anything else between them and you. slowly people will start getting used to it. Thus we may be able to build up a gay friendly generation. Remember, when Wright brothers invented the aircraft people called it ghosts. similarly we should bear the responsibility of bringing such public out of their illusions. Though one or two who we come out to does not understand even then and mistakes being gay is a disease, don't be angry, that is the kind of friend who needs more understanding. Lets just do our part bold and frank. It is not always our mistake when people fail to understand.

I believe that there is no selfless deed in this world and so does this one. trust me friends, coming out is a lot helpful to oneself as well. yeah, it gives one the confidence and a chance to identify how supportive friends could be and more importantly it will help you control over yourself, like stopping you from doing any nasty things. it works well in my case, just the fact my friends know i am gay makes me conscious about my dignity and respect and more than that the fear of loosing my good friends if they come to know i have multiple partners.it has made me live a more organized and a dignified life since the day i told them. Now i am a PROUD GAY!!!

Finally readers, closets are for clothes..I hope this blog has helped you identify the silver lining of the dark clouds covering your mind..

Though there are many "coming out" videos on the you tube i found this one more interesting and a confident delivery from mind..
